The Lighting of an Office Space
The office space needs to be fun and engaging to optimize performance. The room needs to be ergonomically furnished and decorated. But the most important thing is that it needs to be well lit. Lighting is a very important part of the office and if overlooked can lead to severe problems, both for you and your employees.
Why do you should having a good lighting in the office? The reason for this is clear. Each employee spends at least 8 to 10 hours at work everyday. Most of these jobs are done at desks and computers but in even in places like workshops the employees still spend a considerable time in the office rather than on site.
If the lighting in the office is poor, cheap or not adequate it can negatively affect your employees. Those working at desks and using computers will start complaining of eye strain and fatigue. Bad Lighting can cause serious mental fatigue because your eyes are working overtime to adjust to the dimness. Similarly too much light can also put tremendous pressure on the eyes and lead to mental fatigue. In places like workshops if the lighting is poor and inadequate then it could have serious ramifications leading to minor and major accidents.
The office needs the kind of lighting that can support the tasks being done in that space. Work with files and other papers and documents and computers requires distinct lighting conditions that do not give insufficient or excessive illumination or glare. The lighting system should be easily adjustable so that the employees can set it to their preference. Task lighting and lighting controls can help to adjust the lights suited to the preferences of the workers.
The lighting of an office space should also integrate the natural daylight and work with it to improve the lighting within the space. If this is done then the need for adjustable controls becomes undeniable because daylight changes everyday from dull and grey to bright and sunny from time to time. The lighting also needs to be energy efficient and environment safe. Using solar panels and cost efficient bulbs can really help save electricity and thereby money spent on it. And lastly it should be easy to maintain. There is absolutely no point in having great lighting initially and watching it deteriorate day by day and not be able to do anything about that.
